Water Bead Test

Use the ‘water bead test’ to see if your existing surface is ready for a recoat. It’s super easy and only takes a minute!

Drop a few drops of water onto the timber surface and look for water soaking into the timber, that’s how you know it’s ready to be coated.

If you drop water onto the surface and it forms water beads and does not absorb into the timber, you’ll need to either allow for further weathering or sand the timber further. Repeat the above steps, until the water soaks into the timber surface.
